Form of Worship at Baillieston St. Andrew's
All services are Presbyterian, evangelical and biblical in form.
We normally stand to sing but sit for the remainder of the service. Hymns, Psalms and Songs of Worship are taken from 4 sources available in the pews. These are the Praise! hymn book, Church Hymnary 3, Complete Mission Praise (new) and the Book of Psalms.
There is a New International Version of the Holy Bible available in the pews and most Bible readings are taken from the NIV.
The Sunday Morning Service at 11.00am every Sunday
The Sunday morning service starts at 11.00am and is the main worship service (based on numbers attending). Approximately 150 or more members regularly attend.
This service is normally 75 minutes (exceptionally 90 minutes) duration. This service is always held in the Church Sanctuary.
At the Sunday morning service, the minister endeavours to follow the Church of Scotland lexicon. This year (2009) we are continuing to concentrate on the Gospel of Matthew (which we started in 2008).
It normally consists of Prayers, 4 Hymns and a Psalm together with 2 or 3 Bible readings, a Sermon and an offering. Singing is normally accompanied by the electric organ (organist Dr Anne Houston)
Special Facilities normally available at the Sunday morning service
During the months of September to June, there is normally a Creche (for very young children enabling mothers to attend the Service), a Sunday School (for young school aged children) and a Bible Class (for teenagers).
Click for some images of < Sunday School and Creche.
Normally, a short time of Christian fellowship is enjoyed after the service, with teas and coffee (and biscuits) served in the adjacent New Hall.
During the Months September to June inclusive, every 2nd Sunday in the Month, we have a further extended period of Christian fellowship when Soup lunches are prepared and served, with tea, coffee and biscuits to follow.
Public worship continues with the Sunday evening service at 6.30pm
This service is normally 60 minutes duration (and seldom exceeds that). This service is always held in the Church Sanctuary.
It normally consists of Prayers, 3 or 4 Hymns (frequently including a Psalm) together with 2 or 3 Bible readings, a Sermon and an offering.
Singing is normally accompanied by the piano (pianist Mrs Margaret Field)
During the months of July and August there is normally NO Sunday Evening Service.
Fellowship in St Andrew's and with other churches
At the evening services there is no Creche nor Sunday School nor Bible Class, but children are welcome to attend the service with their parent(s).
A short time of Christian fellowship is enjoyed with teas and coffee (with biscuits) normally served in the adjacent New Hall after the evening service.
If there are 5 Sundays in the month (this happens every 3 months or so), then on the 5th Sunday of that month we enjoy a time of Christian fellowship with other East End churches when we join together for the evening service, each church acting as hosts in rotation. The East End churches involved are:
Baillieston St. Andrew's - Rev Alisdair T MacLeod-Mair
Kenmuir Mount Vernon and Carmyle - Rev Murdo MacLean
St. Margaret's Tollcross Park - Rev George M Murray
Sandyhills - Rev Graham Atkinson
Shettleston New - Rev Ronald A S Craig .
The congregation of Baillieston St. Andrew's also enjoys close fellowship with another local congregation of Bargeddie Parish Church (although this church is in a different presbytery).
For special evening services on special occasions we either join with them or they with us. When special mid-week, or special events on a Saturday evening, when hosted by either church, the other is invited to join with them and enjoy fellowship one with another.
Examples of events might be Quiz Nights, Burns Suppers, 'Songs-of-Praise' services, Concerts, Fish Supper and Film nights, etc.

The Mid-Week Service at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings
This service is normally 90 minutes duration (but may well, and frequently does, exceed that).
It normally consists of a short time of Hymn singing (no accompaniment, Hymns chosen on the night by those attending). This is followed by a time of Prayer then a Bible Study with questions and (hopefully, answers). There is no offering at the mid-week service.
Starting at the end of February we will be looking in detail at, and the Biblical basis of, the Shorter Catechism based on the Church of Scotland's subordinate Standard of Faith - The Westminster Confession of Faith
During the months of July and August, there is normally NO mid-week service. This service is aimed at adults, but any teenager who wished to attend would be made most welcome.
The hymns and songs of worship are normally chosen from either Complete Mission Praise (new) and/or the Praise! Hymn book.
Because this service focuses on Bible Study, attendees are encouraged to bring their own Bibles, because this offers the opportunity, when studying God's Word, to look at different translations and compare these. NIV copies of the Bible are available if required.
The mid-week service is normally held in the Session Room in the New Hall adjacent to the church. A short time of Christian fellowship is enjoyed with teas and coffee (with biscuits) after the mid-week service.
Joint prayer and Bible study with other churches
If there are 5 Wednesdays in the month (similar to when there is a 5th Sunday in the month), then we enjoy a time of Christian fellowship with the other East End churches (listed above).
