  • The Saturday morning Pop-In Cafe

Community Saturday morning 'Brunch' in the New Hall.

The Saturday morning Pop-In Cafe is open the first three Saturdays of every month from 10.00am to 1.00pm and meets in the New Hall. It was originally set up by a group of lady communicant members of St. Andrew's Church.
Its purpose was, and still is, to provide a community service for all the people of Baillieston who wished to meet in a convivial and friendly atmosphere to enjoy breakfast and/or lunch. It is frequented by many Baillieston folk, many of whom have no connection with St Andrew's Church. This includes adults with learning difficulties with their day carers because the atmosphere is non-threatening, welcoming and very forgiving, not just the members of staff but also the regulars who frequent the Pop-In.
It is staffed by teams of ladies most of whom are communicant members of St Andrew's Church, but also by some ladies, from time to time, who are either members of neighbouring churches or not associated with any church at all. All the team leaders have attended and received certificates that entitle them to prepare food on the premises. All the food is prepared fresh on the day to order and the quality (not to mention the quantity) is greatly appreciated by many regulars, especially those who live alone and really enjoy the adult company.
On Saturday 7th June 2008 the Pop-In celebrated its 10th birthaday (it started the first week in June 1998). The following are a few photos of the ladies who were serving on 10th anniversary day:-

  • Causeway Prospects

Tony Phelps-Jones (Director of Mission and Ministry at Causeway Prospects) defines Causeway Prospects as a mission to people with learning disabilities. There are over 1.4 million people with learning disabilities in the UK; they are in every parish and every community, and they need to know that Jesus loves them. Causeway Prospects provides advice, training and resource materials to equip churches for effective ministry and outreach among people dearly loved by God and often marginalised by society.
Causeway Prospects runs meetings at several events and organises training and ministry events all over the UK. With 30 years of experience and a developing range of resource materials Causeway Prospects is well placed to support churches, like Bailliestin St Andrews, to meet the needs and challenges presented.
Baillieston St Andrews supports Causeway Prospects by making our New Hall available for meetings and Worship Services. In addition our church gives active support to the Causeway Prospects Charity shop located in Tollcross Road near Parkhead Cross in Glasgow.

  • We are a Registered Fair Trade Church

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices (which must never fall lower than the market price), Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives. At St Andrews we try where possible to use fair trade items such as tea, coffee and sugar. Fairtrade produce will always have the fairtrade logo on them and are available in most of our local supermarkets, we would encourage everyone to look out for these items when shopping for groceries and some clothes now carry the fairtrade mark.
